A Nice Surprise!
On the Way to the Duck House
Greetings, dear reader, on another one of those BEAUTIFUL autumn days! At least here in the GBA we have a nearly cloudless sky, and the trees have turned a fantastic champagne yellow. On the rounds this morning to release the ravenous hordes, (the free ranging chickens and ducks) the new pup quickly ran into the duck pen. It used to be a pig pen, but now the *wallow* has been filled with water; the ducks and a goose like to rest on this *pond* in the night. Adjacent to the *pond* is the pig house, err , umm, the duck feeder house. The place where the feeder hangs somewhat out of the weather. And Jake the retriever pup ran in there, and began to roll some eggs around with his nose.
So the surprise was the ducks, (or maybe just one of them) have started to lay eggs. YAY!
It has been a While
It has been quite a while since we have collected any duck eggs. As everyone knows, (?) duck eggs are preferred for baking. One can eat them just like chicken eggs, but they are , umm, dry, in the sense of dry wine. Much better for baking. So Old Uncle Milton shooed the pup away, got in there and collected six of the beauties. 6 duck eggs! Carried them to the door, and rang the doorbell.
The Little Princess (who else?) came to the door, where I instructed her to bring the egg basket. Next I instructed her to take these duck eggs to her Momma and ask her to use them to bake some cookies. She must have used just the right words, because right now, as I type this, I can smell the aroma of fresh baked cookies wafting from the kitchen.
And you know what that means to Old Uncle Milton. The end.
