When All Else Fails, Blackberries Come Through

2011 has been absolutely horrible for fruits here in Bippus.  Our *everbearing* strawberries threw one crop, mildly meager, and we celebrated that harvest with two successive *Margaretaville* weekends, and then they were gone.

The apples in 2011 are a bust.

Peaches?  Nada.

Pies cherries?  Nope the tree up and died.

Plums? Nope.

Pears?  Uh, uhhh.

What does that Leave?

Well , that leaves the blackberries, and the grapes.  It has been so stinkin dry around here, it is actually a miracle we are harvesting any fruit at all.  But somehow, the blackberries have been producing.  Not a bumper crop or anything, but they are throwing some berries.  And some of us are enjoying them  (wink, wink)

We are still looking for a press to squeeze those grapes when they are ready; otherwise we will be doing the old Italian thing of squeezing the grapes under our feet.  A grape press sure sounds nicer than that.  But the Italians are known to make some pretty fine wines.

Time will tell.  But for now, the blackberries sure are fine.
