Winter Wheat Update

January 3, 2011

An ear of winter wheat.

Remember that winter wheat planted in November?

Well, we had a warm spell for a few days there, on New Year’s eve and day, where the temps nearly reached 50*F, and the snow all melted.  On New Years day I shot some video of the raised bed where last November I had planted winter wheat.  The video did not come out very good,(I had hoped to share it here but, no).

There were one inch shoots in the raised bed!

Now this is the status as of the first day of 2011, so there is still plenty of time for the elements to wipe out the winter wheat, but there is some truth to the theory of “Green Shoots”.

I do not foresee economic green shoots, unfortunately.

Only winter wheat green shoots.  For  those who participated in the poll (way back when) so far the optimistic folk have been correct.
