Taxes Going Up Agin

October 28, 2010

County Council hikes LOIT to maximum

Despite sign carrying protesters, a $60,000 study that states a tax increase is unnecessary, and a sympathetic public already stretched thin, the Huntington County Council last night took action to raise the public safety local option income tax (LOIT) from 0.1 to 0.25% for county residents that still earn an income.

Local economy to lose $80,000/year

One local blogger calculated the tax increase to lower economic prosperity by 80 grand a year.  Protesters outside the courthouse feared the impact on local businesses and low wage employees, both of whom will suffer under the new tax.

Ruling Class exposed

Of course the *Ruling Class* of Huntington was gleeful at expanding their power and control over their *subjects*.  They quickly approved additional funding for the prosecutor’s office and the new HR employee.  The LOIT vote was 5 to 2, only commissioners Hacker and Hoke voting with the will of the people.
