A cold one

September 25, 2010

Average Day of First Frost

in the GBA is September 25.  So here we are on the 24th, with another fairly warm day, and it is projected to go down into the forties this evening.  Nope, we won’t be getting any frost this evening.  But over the years, on average it is about time.

The Kidney Beans are picked

So we finally got the last of the dry beans harvested.  I call them kidney beans but this year they were a type called *Jacob’s Cattle*.  They are a nice dark red like kidney beans, with white markings like the side of a Holstein cow.  When you cook them they taste just about the same as a kidney bean.

We still have some to shell, but for the most part they are ready to store.  Generally we just put them in a jar, screw on the lid, and put them in a cool, dark place.  Until it is time for cooking.
