Broody black giant succeeds

August 22, 2010

Black Giant egg hatches yesterday.

The broody black giant hen has been patiently sitting on her nest for about three weeks, rarely leaving to get food or water. Yesterday there was one little chick in there hanging out with her.  For the first time in /?/ maybe three weeks, she was over by her food bowl.  I took this time to do an egg count and there were eight eggs, and one broken egg shell.

Baby Black Giant very stealthy.

When I approached to refresh the food, the little black giant took off running away from momma. Before that, he was not even noticeable. So we are waiting to see how many, if any, of the other eggs are going to hatch out.

If they are going to they will hatch today.  Pictures to follow.
