Refreshing Hot Weather Drink

August 13, 2010

Nothing like sweet iced tea

Sweet tea created by solar energy is one of my favorite drinks during the dog days of summer.  With the temps reaching well into the 90’s in the GBA, it sure is comforting to sip a glasss of cool sun tea as we relax in the shade.

Really simple procedure

Making sun tea is very straightforward. We use a half gallon jar, with a screw on lid. Hang two tea bags in the jar. Fill with fresh water. Add your favorite sweetener (honey is really nice).  We use about 4 tablespoons of honey, but your mileage may vary. (YMMV) .Place jar in  a sunny location. Come back later (anywhere from 3 to 6 hours)

Generally, we use Lipton brand black tea bags.  Today it is one black and one green tea bag. You can experiment with your favorite herbal teas, there are no hard and fast rules here.  When you return, do a little taste-test.  If the strength is acceptable, remove the tea bags, and pour over a tall glass full of ice cubes.  Store remainder in the refrigerator.

That’s it.  For the admission charge of two tea bags you get a wonderfully mild, refreshing drink that will kick your motivation level back into high gear.  Or maybe third gear, but you will enjoy this and it sure is healthier than anything that comes in an aluminum can.  ENJOY!
