Farm Update

July 1, 2010

Welcome to July, dear reader!

As I was out picking up some chicken feed yesterday, I noticed that many of the farmers were out combining wheat.  We have had some great weather for the last few days, beautiful blue skies, white, Not-Too-Puffy clouds, and gentle breezes. And the *amber waves of grain* were, well, RIPE.

This is the weather that is desirable for harvesting wheat, and for making hay. So, what I saw was a lot of the grain had been combined, and some of the fields had their straw cut, and placed in pretty rows, for future baling.  Of course, many of the guys were out making hay, but those wheat fields just looked so VIVID, their yellowness so intensely bright.

I hope to have a few pictures of the wheat harvest to share with you soon. And a few more photos from our favorite local meat locker too.
