Garden Time

April 7, 2010

Warmer weather is here, Dear Reader, and that means it is time to get out in the garden.  I hope to inspire you to get some dirt under your fingernails today.

This is a photo of Milton’s main garden from 2009, a raised bed of tomatoes on the right, 4 rows of sweet corn in the foreground, and beans behind the corn.

Today would be a great day to cultivate your soil, add some compost and remove those pesky weeds.  Weeds never sleep.  Whether you use a shovel, a Mantis Tiller, a full size tiller, or a garden tractor with a disk or harrow, breaking ground and *fluffing* it- working it into a soft, loose state, is the right thing to do.

Some of the early season vegetable favorites around here are:

  • Potatoes
  • Onion Sets
  • Sweet Peas
  • Lettuce- Romaine and Iceberg
  • Cabbage
  • Broccoli
  • Cauliflower
  • Spinach

Whatever your favorites are, get on out into the garden today!
