The white ducks are White Pekins, a species that originated in ancient China.  White Pekins were brought to America in the middle 1800’s.  Their fine meat quality and egg laying ability quickly made the the first choice of American duck growers.  They are much larger than Mallards as you can see.  Female Pekins typically weigh 8 to 9 pounds; males about 10 to 11 pounds.  The Mallards-the most common wild duck in our country are typically only 2 to 3 pounds.  Ducks are raised for both eggs and for meat.
